Lightning

The classic Lightning was developed as a pure aerobatic jet, the first in its class back in 2004. A very new approach was made when we decided to take an aerobatic plane wing, say from a Giles G-202 wing (you recognize the similarities?), with the exact same airfoil, the standard 40 mm aluminum wing tube, a for the aerobatic needs in size and shape matching stab, and mounted them to a fuselage far enough away from each other so that it really had an aerobatic plane character.

 

Then we designed a jet like fuselage around these fixed parameters and the first pure, giant aerobatic jet was born. For the looks and better visibility we added tip tanks, a large canopy was supposed to allow access to all equipment just like we were used to on our aerobatic planes. A giant bottom hatch, held on with 4 bolts, was the required equivalent to a prop engine cowling, to be removed as quickly as give as well access to the power plant.

So, the CARF-Models Lightning always has been the synonym of a pure breed aerobatic plane in the body of a slick Jet.

That’s the history of our a revolutionary design. The Lightning quickly found a lot of fans. But evolution didn’t stop here, because not everybody liked our revolutionary approach. When we asked what to improve if we were to make a successor of the this wonderful airplane, the fans said to sweep the wings back, to get rid of the tiptanks and to just leave everything else as it is. Well this was when our UltraLightning was born.

However, not everybody was excited about this move. An outcry in the model world there was, when we indicated to stop the classic Lightning’s production. So, what should we do, was the question.

Well, we took the molds and gave them a thorough overhaul, took an more economical approach on the manufacturing efforts and came to the conclusion that the Classic Lightning still has its place on the market. Slightly differently manufactured, a bit streamlined in the assembly process, a bit changed in regards to the kit contents… voilà, the Classic Lightning was back with rumbling thunder!

What a superb Jet! Upgrading from a Flash? Go ahead. Now is the time! Nothing to lose on our Classic Lightning deal - except the opportunity itself.

The Classic Lighting is back and is stocked in the old military schemes at competitive pricing. We do not stock the sport schemes anymore in our warehouses, but they still can be ordered as custom schemes. Delivery time after order should not be more than 8 weeks!

At any later time you can upgrade your Classic Lightning to an "UltraLightning" by purchasing an Ultra Upgrade kit, consisting of new wings and stab in your color scheme. Upgrade kits are available in all Classic Lightning Color schemes!!!
