General information for  SuperXtra 3.1m

SuperXtra 3.1m (122")

If you are interested in aerobatics, you know the name „Extra“ for sure. Walter Extra’s aerobatic planes are some of the biggest steps in aerobatic aviation history. So we at CARF Models are proud to have all these famous planes in our program. But what’s the difference between one of our full composite Extras and all these much cheaper wooden ARFs of our competitors?

Well, take a closer look to the shape of a „real“ Extra. The awesome drop-shaped fuselage is not only a great sight, but also responsible for its amazing knife-edge performance. Mostly you don’t have such little details if you buy one of these wooden kits. What a shame! Exactly these litte details will make your Extra being a „real“ Extra, a CARF Models SuperXtra.

Since the foundation of our company, we offered you a „3 meter“ Extra 330S and improved it continously. We are proud to summarize all our experience in the new SuperXtra and we are sure that this plane is worth to be called a „Super Extra“. Why?

  • We increased the wingspan to 3.1m (122") and made the fuselage a little longer. Combined with 20% bigger ailerons, this is responsible for the amazing 3D capabilities of this bird.

  • We went back to the good old trusty wing tube, made from a high performance aluminium alloy. So you get the highest comfort building up your plane at the flying field, the maxium strength and a real low weight.

  • We optimized the size of the rudder counter balance area step by step. So you get an airplane which will always track perfectly but on the other hand decreases the load on your worthful servos to make them live longer. We enlarged the elevators for even the craziest 3D-maneuvers. It’s your choice if you use only one high-performance servo (for example the JR 8711) on each elevator-half or if you put two of them at their place (then also the 8511-class will be sufficient).
  • With our kits, we give you the possibility to use your worthful time only for flying and reduce the builing work to a minimum. So we decided to glue in even the linkage horns for you and are sure you always get the highest prefabrication with our planes on the market!

  • We improved the construction of the fuselage continously to offer you the maximum strength with a minimum of weight. So the engine-dome forms one unit with the rest of the fuselage. You don’t have to care about any weakness even with the new 170cc engines, which often cause a lot of vibrations. Our airframes don’t get weak at all, even after hundreds of flights!

  • You can be sure that every 150-200 cc engine on the market will fit under the huge canopy. You can use a lightweight and cheap 150 ccm boxer and have plenty of power. You need more ? Then simply change to tuned pipes such as Greve’s, which will fit under the wing tube without problems. Also one of the modern 170cc DA or 3W will be a great choice. And even a heavy 4-cylinder-engine will work without CG-problems, if you move your rudder servos to the tail.

What about flying the SuperXtra?

Well, the fuselage with its long nose will help you doing the craziest 3D-maneuvers. Our Extra will be stable in every situation; all the hovering-stuff is easy to fly without any wing rocking. The big rudder and the fuselage with its large canopy are responsible for a great knife-edge-performance, even at a very low speed! You can move the Extra through the air like a parkflyer, if you want to. But also for IMAC-competitions the SuperXtra will be a good choice. The wing-geometry and the used airfoil are perfect to do precise and „crispy“ snaps. That’s what the judges want to see! Also all kind of spins can be flown perfectly. Last but not least, the CARF Models SuperXtra has a very aerodynamical shape so you have plenty of power and speed at high throttle to fight with a strong and windy weather. But if you turn the stick back, it will be kindly slow at the downlines and still tracks perfectly.

You are still thinking if it should be a full composite CARF Models SuperXtra or a would-be cheaper wooden ARF? Then think about this: The full-scale Extra 330 is a full-composite design, too. Can this be a disadvantage for our models?
