Brand new Edge 540 2.6m available soon!

CARF-Models has done it again. In total secrecy an airplane evolved which you have never expected to see from CARF. The EDGE-540!

2.6m span, 12-13 kg weight, engines 100-120 cc. Even though it is a 2.6m spanning plane, it is a massive fuselage, where even 150 cc engines would fit easily. A 3D monster and at the same time a precise pattern machine - not possible? Oh yes, it is.

The CAD Model bases very much on the original lines and shapes, which gives us the freedom to say that it surely is the best looking Edge out there. The typical shape of the fuselage, cowling and canopy are unique to an EDGE, and very often are not well reproduced by other manufacturers. We, too, designed the plane around very well proven parameters, taken from other successful 2.6m planes, such as the Extra 260 2.6m. But around that we created the most beautifully shaped fuselage, cowl, canopy and rudder. Just so close to the full scale EDGE-540. It's a monsterous fuselage, as scale as it is. Designed around 100 cdc, it would even fit a 150 cc engine easily.

Performance, however, is even more important than looks. So we took what we learned in many years and combined it with what our customers suggested to us. The result is the CARF Edge-540 with all its features. And the most revolutinary feature are the ailerons. They are not skin hinged. They are separately molded and hinged just like you know it of CARF elevator and rudder hinging. This creates a fully centric hinge line and deflections of well over 45 degrees. Counter balance surfaces at the tips balance the huge surfaces statically and dynamically. Even your wildest guesses how this plane is going to perform don't come close to what it really is able to do.

CAD work has started in early 2008. However, mold milling had to wait for an available slot in our very busy molding department. The first prototype has been built within only 4 weeks. Currently this first prototype is being test flown by several CARF Team Pilots and it will be seen at airshows in and around Germany for the remainder of the season.

This is to wetten your apetite:

Have you been waiting for a CARF Edge? You wait is over.
Have you been waiting for an aerobatic plane with huge center hinged ailerons? Your wait is over.
Have you been waiting for an Edge which finally lookes like and edge and not like an Extra with foward swept wings? Your wait is over.
Do you own an Edge which doesn't perform the way you want? Your wait is over.

The CARF Edge will give you all you desire, and so much more... Keep your wallet close, your credit cards in reach. End of August you should be able to order your's. For now, we will update you in this "future project diary" section constantly with everything you need to know. Also with comments of pilots who had a chance to get a hand on the prototype. Stay tuned...!
